MCC Soccer Falls Short To Northwest

From School Reports

The Meridian Community College  Eagles looked to capitalize on two early goals Tuesday afternoon on the road at Northwest Mississippi Community College, but the Eagles would fall just short. The Rangers would battle back from the two-goal deficit to secure a 3-2 comeback victory over MCC in men's soccer action.

Sophomore Lyle Daugherty put the Eagles on the scoreboard in the opening minutes of the match with a goal and sophomore Tyler Green would score a goal in the ninth minute of the match to give MCC a 2-0 lead. Tyler Germany would collect an assist on the goal by Green in the first half.

The Eagles would maintain the lead until the Rangers cut the lead in the 12th minute to 2-1 with both teams battling into half. Mamadou Mbaye scored the first half goal for the Rangers on an assist by Thomas King.

The Eagles surged into the second half with several good looks on goal by Germany. Late into the half the Rangers would serve a ball into the box leading to a subsequent penalty kick, evening the score 2-2. Devin Stoeger scored the PK goal for Northwest to tie the game.

The score remained tied until Wyatt Sacks from Northwest would get loose off the right side of the 18 box taking advantage of the outside back losing his footing to score the go-head goal to make the score 3-2 with five minutes left in regulation.

The Eagles had a few more opportunities to even things out but fell short as timed expired to drop the men's match to Northwest 3-2.

The Lady Eagles also dropped its second match of the year by falling to the Lady Rangers by a count of 1-0. The two teams were scoreless after one half, but Northwest would score its lone goal in the 58th minute by Abby Morales to take the one-goal win.

The Eagles and Lady Eagles will be back in action Friday at home as they play host to Itawamba Community College. The MCC women will take to the field at 2 p.m. and the men will follow at 4 p.m.
